PRP Hair & Scalp Rejuvenation

Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy has become one of the most trusted natural solutions for encouraging hair growth and improving scalp health.

MD HEALTH

PRP Hair & Scalp Rejuvenation

Changes in hair thickness and density are common and can affect both men and women. If your hair is beginning to look thinner, less dense or lacking in its previous fullness, PRP Hair & Scalp Rejuvenation offers a non-surgical cosmetic treatment designed to support the appearance and quality of the hair and scalp.

PRP stands for Platelet-Rich Plasma. The treatment uses plasma prepared from a small sample of your own blood, which is then carefully administered to targeted areas of the scalp.

At MD Health, every PRP treatment programme is individually planned according to your concerns, the areas you would like to improve and your cosmetic goals.

What is PRP?

Platelet-Rich Plasma is prepared from your own blood.

During your appointment, a small blood sample is taken in much the same way as a routine blood test. The sample is then placed into a specialist centrifuge, which separates the different components of the blood and allows the platelet-rich plasma to be prepared.

The resulting PRP contains a concentrated level of platelets and naturally occurring growth factors.

Once prepared, the PRP is carefully administered to selected areas of the scalp using fine injections. In suitable clients, PRP may also be incorporated into a scalp microneedling treatment.

Because PRP is prepared from your own blood, no synthetic filler material is being introduced into the scalp.

What is PRP Hair & Scalp Rejuvenation Designed For?

PRP Hair & Scalp Rejuvenation is designed for adults who would like to improve the cosmetic appearance of their hair and scalp.

It may be considered if you:

  • Have noticed your hair looking thinner than it previously did
  • Feel that certain areas of your hair appear less dense
  • Would like to support fuller-looking hair
  • Want to improve the overall appearance and quality of your hair
  • Would like to improve the appearance and condition of your scalp
  • Prefer a non-surgical cosmetic treatment
  • Would like a treatment using plasma prepared from your own blood
  • Are looking for a treatment that can be incorporated into a longer-term hair and scalp care programme

Treatment suitability varies between individuals and will always be assessed before proceeding.

Which Areas Can Be Treated?

PRP treatment can be tailored according to the areas where you have noticed changes in the appearance or density of your hair.

Common treatment areas include:

  • The frontal hairline
  • Temples
  • Crown
  • Top of the scalp
  • Areas of generally reduced density
  • Wider areas of the scalp where an overall rejuvenation approach is preferred

Your areas of concern will be discussed during consultation and an individual treatment plan can then be developed.

Your Consultation

Every PRP treatment programme at MD Health begins with a consultation.

This gives us an opportunity to discuss what you have noticed about your hair, how long the changes have been present, your cosmetic goals, previous treatments and your general medical history.

Your scalp and hair can also be visually assessed and baseline photographs may be taken. These photographs provide a useful reference when reviewing changes during a treatment programme.

The consultation is also an opportunity to discuss realistic expectations. PRP is not suitable for everyone and individual responses can vary considerably.

PRP Hair & Scalp Rejuvenation at MD Health is provided as a cosmetic treatment. It is not a diagnostic service and is not offered for the treatment of alopecia or an underlying medical cause of hair loss.

If your hair loss is sudden, unexplained, patchy or there are other features suggesting that medical investigation may be appropriate, you will be advised to seek appropriate medical assessment before proceeding with cosmetic treatment.

What Happens During a PRP Treatment?

Your appointment will usually involve several stages.

Blood Collection

A small sample of blood is taken from your arm.

PRP Preparation

The blood is placed into a specialist centrifuge and processed to prepare the platelet-rich plasma.

Preparing the Scalp

The treatment area is identified and the scalp is prepared before treatment.

PRP Application

The prepared PRP is carefully administered across the selected areas of the scalp using fine injections.

Depending on your individual treatment plan, PRP may also be combined with scalp microneedling.

The entire appointment will generally take approximately 45-60 minutes.

PRP with Scalp Microneedling

For suitable clients, scalp microneedling can be incorporated into a PRP rejuvenation programme.

Microneedling involves creating controlled microchannels within the skin using very fine needles and is commonly used within aesthetic treatments.

Combining the two techniques allows PRP to be incorporated into a broader cosmetic scalp rejuvenation treatment.

Whether direct PRP injections, microneedling or a combination of the two is most appropriate will be discussed during your consultation.

How Many PRP Treatments Will I Need?

PRP is generally approached as a course of treatments rather than a one-off procedure.

A typical initial programme may consist of approximately three treatments, usually spaced around 4-6 weeks apart.

Some clients may subsequently choose maintenance treatments depending on their individual response and cosmetic goals.

There is no identical treatment schedule for everyone, so your programme will be tailored according to your individual circumstances.

When Might I Notice a Difference?

PRP is not an instant cosmetic treatment.

Any changes occur gradually, and it is important to allow sufficient time before assessing the overall response to a treatment programme.

Progress photographs can be particularly helpful because gradual changes in hair appearance can otherwise be difficult to notice from day to day.

Individual responses vary and results cannot be guaranteed.

What Does the Treatment Feel Like?

The scalp contains many nerve endings, so some discomfort during PRP injections is normal.

Most people describe the treatment as manageable, although sensitivity varies considerably between individuals and between different areas of the scalp.

If microneedling is incorporated into your treatment, this can also cause temporary sensitivity.

Treatment comfort and what you can expect will be discussed before the procedure begins.

Is There Any Downtime?

PRP Hair & Scalp Rejuvenation is minimally invasive and usually requires little downtime.

Following treatment, you may experience:

  • Mild scalp redness
  • Tenderness or sensitivity
  • Minor swelling
  • Small areas of pinpoint bleeding
  • Temporary bruising at injection sites

These effects are generally temporary.

You will receive appropriate aftercare advice following your treatment.

After Your Treatment

You should follow the individual aftercare instructions provided following your appointment.

The scalp may feel slightly tender immediately afterwards, so it is generally advisable to treat the area gently and avoid unnecessary irritation.

Specific advice regarding washing your hair, exercise, hair products and other treatments will be discussed with you at your appointment.

If you have any concerns following treatment, you should contact MD Health for advice.

Why Choose a Course Rather Than One Treatment?

PRP Hair & Scalp Rejuvenation is generally planned as a programme because cosmetic changes in hair appearance develop gradually.

Spacing treatments over several weeks also provides an opportunity to review your response and adjust the treatment plan where appropriate.

At MD Health, baseline and progress photographs may be used to help objectively compare the appearance of your hair throughout the course.

Who May Not Be Suitable?

PRP is not appropriate for everyone.

Your medical history, medications and general health will be reviewed as part of the consultation and suitability assessment.

Treatment may need to be postponed or may not be appropriate in certain circumstances.

If there is concern that changes in your hair could be associated with an underlying medical condition, you may be advised to seek medical assessment before considering cosmetic PRP.

A Personalised Approach

Hair and scalp concerns vary considerably between individuals.

Some people are primarily concerned about one particular area, while others notice a more general change in the overall appearance or density of their hair.

For this reason, MD Health does not use exactly the same treatment plan for every client. The treatment area, technique, number of sessions and whether microneedling is incorporated can all be considered according to your individual cosmetic goals.
